Plant-based Hero Ingredients

TEWC stands for ‘The Earth Works Cosmetics’ because we believe in the power of plants.

As ‘The Earth Works Cosmetics’ (TEWC for short!) we believe in the incredible power of plants to nourish skin and soul.

We’ve chosen to showcase our favourite ingredients that feature in many of our professional beauty and retail products:

Sweet Almond Oil

The ultimate ALL-ROUNDER. Sweet Almond is a mild natural oil that is super lightweight, fast absorbing yet ultra-moisturising. Due to it’s low comedogenic (pore blocking) rating, sweet almond can soften skin whilst also gently cleansing pores to remove blackheads and prevent future acne breakouts.

Great for all skin-types, the high oleic acid (Omega 9) content in the oil helps to reduce the appearance of aging, such as premature wrinkles and fine lines. When used as a massage oil, sweet almond can prevent joint inflammation, stiffness, and pain. The presence of Omega 6 helps to soothe acne and reduce chances of future breakouts.

We feature the highest quality food-grade Sweet Almond Oil in many of our professional massage and facial treatments due to it’s versatility and all round star qualities!

Avocado Oil

SUPERFOOD SKINCARE starts with an avocado…  A hugely popular food item, Avocado Oil features in plant-based skincare formulations due to it's gentle, hydrating and vitamin-rich (A, B1, B2, D, E) properties.

Often used as an anti-aging oil due to its high levels of pantothenic acid. Avocado Oil is particularly suited to lacklustre, sensitive or dry skin. A notable carotenoid present in avocado oil is lutein. Found in the skin, lutein is believed to help protect the skin against light-induced skin damage, especially the ultraviolet sun rays.

We feature cold-pressed, unrefined avocado oil in many of our facial treatments as it is a truly excellent skincare, massage and aromatherapy ingredient.

Our Avocado Oil is:

  • Food grade

  • Certified cruelty free and vegan friendly

  • Rich in Oleic Acid (Omega 9) and Vitamin E

  • Rich and ultra moisturising

  • Amazing for mature skin

  • Medium to slow absorption rate, ideal for facial treatments

Macadamia Butter

A light, non-greasy NOURISHING BODYCARE butter.  We love Macadamia butter for it’s skin conditioning properties whilst being just a 2 to 3 on the comedogenic scale which makes it suitable for all skin types.

The macadamia tree is an indigenous species to Australia and is over 60,000 years old. This ancient bodycare saviour is particularly good for mature and dry skin types as it contains a high percentage of palmitoleic acid (which is also found in sebum) to maintain skin moisture levels.

We love to combine the nourishing macadamia butter with shea and cocoa butters to create effective plant-based treatments that our therapists love to use in their bodycare rituals.

Our Top 10 Bodycare Benefits of Macadamia:

  • Other than jojoba oil (which is actually considered a waxy ester as opposed to an oil) it's the closest match to the naturally occurring sebum of the skin.

  • It is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic oil.

  • It contains squalene and oleic acid that assists with cell regeneration, making this oil particularly useful for dry or chapped skin as it softens and moisturises.

  • It contains omega 6 linoleic acid which is useful for balancing sebum production in oily skin and creates a natural protective barrier.

  • The shell in which it is housed and added to the oil is rich in naturally occurring vitamin E.

  • Oils extracted from macadamia contain omega 7 or palmitoleic acid, which is beneficial for wound healing, wounds, scratches and burns.

  • It contains phytosterols that assist with itchiness and redness.

  • It's highly emollient oil, yet light and penetrating that's excellent for dry and mature skins that have a reduced production of natural sebum.

  • The oil extracted from macadamia has excellent spread ability, lubrication and penetration properties that imparts a smooth non greasy after effect.

  • This oil also has a slight sunscreen effect.
